S&W model 422/622 pistol

I along with many companions purchased these back in the 90's. great lightweight innovative pistol, especially in 4in barrel 422 . Why did S&W stop production after only a short time?

  I'm sure it was based on sales. I shot a 422 and rated it about the same as my Ruger bull barreled stainless mark II. Neither one shoots as nice as my model 53 S&W which is almost as good as the High Standard HD Military.

  Have you seen the 2206? Almost identical and holds 12 rds.
  I use mine for rimfire silhouette, you could use it for anything else.
  I really like the grip mag release, the light weight, the adjustable sights, and the "cheap" look of it; almost all stamped metal parts.
  
  It's a tossup as far as accuracy goes; my Ruger Gov't. Competition Target shoots as well as it does, so do my Contender and my Freedom Arms 22mag.
  Never shot a High Standard anything, so you're on your own there.

  After S & W moved to their new factory in Holton Maine in the late 90's, they discontinued the production of the 422/2206/2214 series of 22 pistols. They were replaced by the 22A models. No body knows for sure but it's thought that the 22A's could be made cheaper, at more of a profit for S & W.
  
  EDIT #1, Although made for only a short period as far as production runs are concerned, ( late 80's/late 90's?). There were a number of different variations. Knowledgeable S & W collectors are starting to seek them out. ( Check the S & W board on Rimfire Central, the rarer desirable variations are a hot topic). If you ever run across a 2206 with factory original Millet sights, or one that's a Pinto, or a 422 with a slide that has been machined with lightening cuts jump on them.

  Thanks, never knew about the 2206 , looks like only difference is stainless steel vs alloy.
  I think these are good woods walking light pistols and the threaded barrel sleeve allows adding a suppressor easily.

  I have each variant of these with suppressor adaptors on all of them. I have the 422 (blued alloy), 622 (silver alloy), 2206 (all stainless) 2213 (compact version of the 622), and the 2214 (compact version of the 422). They are all great guns. I always get slammed when I say this, but I personally think they are almost as good as the aclaimed S&W 41. The mags will somewhat interchange. The mags with the black followers are later model 10 round versions, and the orange mags are 12 round. One desireable option on the orange mag is the option to take them apart for cleaning or to replace the followers which do crack with enough rounds, though most still work fine even after cracking.
