Mag Tube

I've had several .22 cal. magazine feeder tubes over the years (got one now too ) that were warped/slightly crooked like a pool stick, I've had very little luck straighting the tubes so inserting would be easy and non-binding, so what is the offical gunsmiths trick of staighting them without having to buy new. Any tips ?

    The only one I've ever used with any luck and it wasn't even a severe dent was getting a piece of steel rod of the right diameter and tapping it through. I took a small bolt, again of the proper diameter and put it it the other end and rested that on a piece of pine board so as to not deform that end.

    Thats an idea, work from the inside to straighten ??? never thought of/tried that. I always worked on the outside, now I got to find the right size rod, another problem, LOL. Thanks for replying [;)]

    A good hardwood dowel will work as well.

    I do not think a dowel or metal rod will straighten a warped tube.

    Look for an old archery shop that has the jig for straightening arrows. May cost you a few bucks, should be less then the cost of a new tube.

    If you run across enough bent tubes you could make one up.

    I don't think I have ever seen a bent tube in my life. I can see it happening if someone does not pay attention to what they are doing with the gun when loading it.

    I think you misunderstood the problem, as stated in my OP, its the feeder tube not the magazine tube. I'm sure its a pretty common problem in the world of .22's and not just with me though, of course I've handles more than my share in life [:D]

    Try filling the tube with fine sand to prevent it from kinking and then carefully roll it on a hard flat surface until the tube is arched so the bend is up, then press down. It may take a couple tries, but it works

    I've used sand for bending tubes to keep from kinking/crimping but never for straighting tubes, its a idea though. Thanks

    You are talking the inner mag tube for a tube feed 22 rifle correct?

    Never have seen a bent one that caused any kind off feeding or inserting issues. Have seen them buggered on the plunger end so the plunger will not stay in. I have had a few inner and outer tubes that were bent as a pair (most likely the gun dropped or run over).

    If you are talking the outer tube, I don't remember ever seeing one that was bent with out having the inner tube stuck in it as noted above.

    If it is the outer tube, fixing it depends on the style. There is the one made from a rolled sheet steel that has the seam in it. That one would not likely be a good candidate for straightening as the seam would open up. You may be able to use a rod as a mandrel and work it over. Depends on the cost of your time and if a new tube is available. The other kind is made from steel tube and would be easy to straighten just like an aluminum arrow.
