Webley & Son No 2 - 450 CF - British Bulldog
I was asked if this could be considered an antique? Would this be, or is there anyway I could verify? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, Thinking of bidding on this Webley but before I do would like to confirm with you that there is NO FFL needed for this revolver! All Webley SOLID frame revolvers (such as the one you are selling) were manufactured or purchased no later than 1895 which is 3 years prior to the December 31st, 1898-January 1st, 1899 cutoff date. These Bulldog revolvers were assembled and sold up until the turn of the century, but again as the frame is what is considered the firearm under BATF regulations and as all frames were manufactured/purchased before the cutoff date, all of these revolvers are considered Antique and can be shipped directly to the purchaser-some state and local laws not withstanding!

Don't know about DOM? This guy seems sincere and knowledgeable in his e-mail to you. But my reference, "Pistols of the World", by Hogg & Walter. States that the #2 Bull Dogs were made as late as 1914, when W W I started.
Even though yours is the first model with the unfluted cylinder, there is always a chance it was one of those made after 1899?0 -
Yes, sounds like he knows his subject, but.....I'd put it on him: "Send me a photocopy of the front cover & the appropriate page in your reference source, & that will satisfy me".

That gun was made before 1897.0 -

Which further confirms that guns were assembled and sold for years after the last frames were made, as there are no known No. 2 BBD's marked with the Webley & Scott address.0 -
