Early Colt 1911 Auction
This 1915 made Colt looks very nice.
Are there any signs that this has been re-blued?
The grip saftey looks polished. Shouldnt there be some bluing loss where the Ordnance inspector stamp is?

i don't care for the way the Colt was photographed. The lighting makes it very difficult to get a true appraisal of the finish.
Another point would be the return/inspection policy for the Colt. I wouldn't be bidding it up to $3,000+, unless I knew for sure that I had 3 day inspection period, To return it and get my money back.0 -
Take a look at the 1915 Colt pictured in the collection shown at:

THAT gun has been examined by collectors & is a known reference model for that period.
The gun being offered is......well, take a look & decide for yourself if it looks the same.

EDIT 1: Wow ---- it sold for $5,500! And, to a NR bidder. Hmmm, seems like all the bidders had only a few transactions. Wonder if that means anything. I hope Perry Shooter weighs in on this one.
EDIT 2: Doug, once you have bid on a GB auction, you will understand that this is exactly the type of bidding we expect in a REAL auction. A bidder can increase his bid, even if he is the current high bid, if he wants to be sure that he gets the item; if no one bids against him, his higher bids are never posted. Stick around; some day the new owner (or his heir) will post pics on this forum & ask, "Is my gun really original?"0 -

As to this auction all I can say is A fool and his money is soon parted I can't believe it. Unless there was a factory letter stating it came this way . The pictures are in Focus BUT you really need completely different color back drop and grip safety and mainspring housing high polished in the white .[V] WHAT The XXXXXX
EDIT The more I look at this the more I think this seller
Has some kind of Photo shop That does contrast and White level correction. got detail on barrel but This Black on the slide looks like a touched up Playboy centerfold. Nothing like my 1915 Military That was one of 100 allocated and sold by act of congress to NRA LIFE Members in 1915.0 -

Photographed similarly, too, with dark background.
Warning, I am not a highpowered wheeler dealer speculator or collector and my opinion is not "expert." Ain't no way I am paying that kind of money for what still looks like army surplus to me.0 -

The gun is reblued, touched up and repolished, not correct, not original. It was very cleverly photographed with lighting designed to conceal all the problems. NR bidders are fine. They bid high and pay up 100% in my experience (I have sold to dozens of them). They bid oddly because they don't know the ropes yet. It is not easy to learn originality on guns quickly and they jump in on what looks good at first and then get burned like what happened here. 0
