Colt Single action Help

I have a Colt Single action i want to sell. It was built in 1889,if it is pre 1899 no FFL required correct? And can i ship by USPS legally.

If the serial on frame (not one on back strap or trigger guard as those parts can be changed) identifies it as pre-1899 it can be mailed.

In this case, it is still legal for a FFL to ship USPS. It is also more cost effective, to find a transfer FFL that has reasonable rates to ship for you, as the gun can be sent for under $20.00 by USPS Priority mail. UPS, and FEDEX will require extremely high rates for shipping overnight.

[:)] The problem arises that if you declare the contents to be a firearm, the carrier will probably require you to use the expensive rate. If you do not declare it as a firearm (and you are not legally required to do so IF the gun is being sent to an FFL) you can choose GROUND. The caveat is that if the gun is lost or damaged, the carrier will probably fight the claim if you sent it by GROUND. Since my guns are covered under my own policy, I don't worry about that. Just pack it VERY well and address it VERY clearly. I shipped a handgun by GROUND a couple of months ago from NV to NY and I seem to recall it ran only about $12.
