Remington 11 fiber washer question

I had posted in the want ads looking for a fiber washer/rivet for my WW2 era model 11. Since then, I have been doing some research online and am asking: I only shoot target/skeet loads out of this ol bumperjack, do I really need to replace the washer (or what's left of it).

I am in the process of building the tooling (from TM 9-1285 figures 35 and 36) just in case. Seems like a lot of hassle if I don't need it.

  In theory, the bolt never come back far enough to hit the "buffer". Only in extreem cases does it come into play. Over the years I've seen quite a few of those guns that had the washer missing with no apparent ill effect. (avoid the heavy hunting loads)

  The Remington 11 is timed differently than the Browning A5, hence the reason for the recoil cushion.
