FILLING NUMBERS ON GUNS
I know that you can not alter the SN #.
But others numbers, how would be the Best way to cover them?
I was thinking of welding them,then grinding smooth, then Reblue.

In Picture no. 4 you can see the kind of holes that need filled, as
the Scope Base would be better on top with a # 62 WEAVER mount. or no Base and put the Rear back on. I know that if it is none correct then you can not tell it was drilled and tapped.

that works as long as the welding rod is similar in content to the part being welded, if not you will sometimes see a discoloration even after polishing and blueing. 0 -
4140-45 is commonly used in guns, and it does not take real well to arc welding when cold. For the best weld, that type of steel should be pre-heated at the weld area, and gas welding becomes the easiest and best. 0 -
Chances are it will come out looking poorer than you expected. Subsequent sales attempts may be difficult. A buyer may have doubts or suspicions about what may look to be an attempt to hide something.
If it is just for your own use, I'd say fill the numbers with JB Weld and then polish smooth. The fill will come out gray and you can then just stain them dark with something as simple as a Sharpie. Then, if you ever go to sell it, you could clean out the engraving with a dental pic and restore it to its former glory. Good luck. [:)]0 -

Use thread in plugs for those mount holes. I personally would be VERY
pissed off if a seller welded on a receiver and DIDN"T tell me in the add.[xx(]0 -

Not trying to give you a hard time though. Have to admit I've always been a bit puzzled by the collector mentality. To each his own said the old lady as she kissed the cow. Just not my thing. Good luck.0 -
