Can a winchester model 12 12 gauge 2 3/4" chamber be modified ( have chamber lenghtened) to shoot 3" shells
The reason i ask is i own a model 12 roit gun (watts commemorative edition[:D]) which is in like new condition. I would like to purchase a extra barrel/ mag, forearm which i see a lot of on ebay. I would like to have a spare duck gun realize the new set up will have to be fitted .What i really wanted was a 12 heavy duck
thanks rp0 -
Check the I.D. of the barrel at the bore. Many of the full choked shotguns were opened up for steel shot, when it became mandatory for hunting. Last year I bought a cherry condition, M 12, 30", full choke that had been opened up to improved modified.
Chances are from your description of the shotgun, if it's been hunted with in the last 15 years? It's been opened up for steel shot.0 -

Thanks, what should the I.D. be? 0 -

All you need is a 10 cent coin, (.705 Dia.). It won't fit into a 12 gauge with a full choke barrel. If it goes into the barrel, that means that the choke has been either partially or completely removed. A true cylinder bore 12 gauge barrel, should measure approximately .729.0 -
+1 for screw in chokes, not really a DIY project but could be.

Depending on the number of shots you shoot at ducks, it may be more economical to purchase a few boxes of classic type non-tox, or have a friend handload some at about $2/shot. Unless you shoot several boxes, you'd be $$ ahead. 0 -
I have 4 M-12 Heavy Duck
1 collector and 3 Hunters
2 of the Hunters I put Screw-in Win-chokes in so I could use what ever shot that I wanted. The other Hunter I put an Rifled Slug Barrel and LEUPOLD Scope on for Hunting with Rifled Slugs.
I now 1 32" solid Rib Expendition Grade to look at, and 3 to Hunt
what ever that I want to Hunt.

I'm looking for a Model 12 collector for advise. I bought a Model 12 Heavy Duck, 3", 30 barrel with a solid rib a while back. It was in pretty sad shape, and since I had no intention of re-selling it, I had it reblued, and put 25 coats of Tru Oil on the stripped and sanded stock. I would really like to duck hunt with the gun, but of course I wouldn't shoot steel shot through it, and the alternative shot is outrageously expensive. Since I have probably already spoiled the collector value by refinishing it, I assume that if I had it screw choked to shoot steel shot, I would not be doing any further damage, right??[?]0
