What are these used for?

What are these used for? At first glance they appear to be the shaft of a broken tap.. Are they a special purpose wrench? Tapered square on one end. Found in a gunsmiths sight box...

    This is just a WAG. Might be home made hones for the chambers of a revolver. Mike the their OD, and get back to us.

    Could be mandraels for working out dends in tube mags.

    The ??? mike .154" for the larger of the two and .100" for the smaller.

    The tapered square is a giveaway for a tool that is used then removed from a hole. Think of a water faucet outside your house, as it wears, the handle just slips down the taper more to give more bite to it.
    I'm thinking he used them to bend things, pressed them into holes on a block of steel,visualize an "E" laying on it's back, then used two or more to bend small steel items like
    flat leaf springs or to wind coil springs around.

    IMHO given the info about the location, I think they are tap blanks.

    I know a lot of machinist will get their hands on stuff like that just because some others don't have them & they make good conversation peices at work.

    The ones you have in the picture look like bottoming or plug tap blanks.

    Taps should NOT have tapered square ends. A good tap is ground so it's square end is parallel to the center line of the tap. Just about any thing tapered in the machine world is to allow assembly and dis assembly easily. There are even "special" tapers called Morse that will lock up tight against rotational forces that exceed tons of force, yet will fall out from just a tap from a 10 oz. hammer.

    Those are for reaming tapered holes for shotgun bead sight installation. Have used them in the past.

    hmmm....100 seems a little large for a Bradly Bead.
    They might be used as a "broken screw" extractor ?
