Can anyone help with the date on this? Double Action No.6 .38S&W 2" barrel. What I found so far is it might be 1898 or newer. Serial #4858 H&A wood grips.

A photo would help, but how is the cylinder pin released?
Does it have a lever under the pin, or a lever on left side in front of the cylinder?
H&A used the left side release on their solid frame models, but after H&A's plant burned, they bought Forehand & Wadsworth's machinery in 1902, and continued to produce F&W models for a few years, with only the markings changed.
The No. 6s that I have seen have the release under pin, and appear to actually be leftover F&Ws, such as this listing:

But H&A made many different models and may have also used the No. 6 label on their earlier types, which had the release on left side.0 -

Looks identical,except serial number is on inside of handle.0 -

Then it was made after 1902, but there are no serial no. records.
The 1904 Sears catalog listed this as the "Forehand & Wadsworth New Double Action Self Cocking Revolver, manufactured by the Hopkins & Allen Manufacturing Co., who bought the Forehand & Wadsworth plant."0 -
