Whats the Deal with this rifle? There are a lot of these on the Auction side but i dont ever see anyone bidding on them.

    Anyone have a Rem. 700 Police in this caliber. Looks to be discontinued.

    A friend of mine back in Minnesota still has one. What is the question? How it shoots? Or, do we know of a place to get one?

    I think I have found one---- seller is out of town this week. Just added a Barrett 6.8 and looking for a bolt gun also. Love Rem. 700s, just didn't know about their 6.8. Think they were only available for a limited time. Would like to know the twist rate and how accurate in this caliber.[:p]

    I've found a few on the internet for sale but being discontinued, they can few and far between.

    The standard twist rate is 1:9" which is sufficient for most .270 bullets in this cartridge. However, the case capacity is too small to really get any velocity from the heavier bullets which would benefit from that twist rate. You might be able to use the heaviest bullets combined with slow powders to make use of a suppressor.

    I originally thought that this might be a terrific short range tactical cartridge but the case capacity matched to the lightweight bullets has really held it back. The idea was to be able to convert the military over to this cartridge by designing it to work in the M16 platform. But the military being the military was not having any of it.

    I'm not a fan of anything .270 anyway so my suggestion would be to move on to another rifle chambered for a better cartridge. Your choice though if that's what you want.

    Not to detract from the original post but to answer the question.

    The first Kurz is a Hensley creation in .223 Rem. I try to group these signature pictures by concept and these were done for the various types of scope mounts. Similar ones featured the bolt handles.

    The second Kurz is Hensley and Heilmann chambered for the .250 Savage.
    Most of these rifles are stocked in exceptional examples of wood also.

    The Kurz actions were never produced in large numbers and the demand always outstripped the supply. That's why they are so collectible, low numbers, high demand.

    This set off a run by gunmakers who took original length Mausers and created the Kurz length actions by cutting the actions and bolts, then re-assembling them by welding into the shorter actions. I believe that the Guild still requires this project in order to become a full member.

    We just started with 8620 and crafted our own actions to the original Kurz prints. It was more fun to take the basic numbers but add the embellishments often asked for by clients, making the actions and rifle unique. Numbering and makers marks differentiated these modern actions from the original Mausers produced in the factory to avoid confusion.

    I think that the current trends in manufacturing have overlooked the obvious desire of many folks for slightly more 'petite' rifles for certain cartridges and uses. I much prefer carrying a Kurz in .250 Savage for deer than some full size rifle. The Sako A1 had the same feel without the Mauser style.

    Seriously, those are some beautiful Kurz rifles. Would you mind giving us some details on those?

    Thank you for the description of those rifles. I think the light rifle concept is pretty outstanding as well. We often over-gun ourselves and over-weigh ourselves. If not totally committed to 'historic' cartridges something in the '_x47' or one of the Savage .250's numerous offspring would be a delight to pack around. And, punch long range holes when one felt like it.
