I've always liked the look and feel of the Hi Power and i'm considering one from an estate.It is a series "T" and has been nicely reblued to a deep blue/black and the bolt and trigger jeweled.I realize that really affects the value but I'm not interested from a collector standpoint but to keep as a shooter.The price is 425.00 with 2 magazines.Any thoughts on price? Also what is the main difference in a "T" series and the other Hi Powers? I noticed a premium on these pistols on Gunbroker but the value books don't mention the difference Thanks in advance. 0 -
In 1969 Browning started using two digits for the date of manufacture which was followed by a four digit code that identified the type of Auto-5:
C=Hi-Power
This was then followed by the serial number beginning with 1000.
Example: 69C1000 = A 1969 Hi-Power pistol with a serial number of 1000.
Based on this your Hi-Power was made in 19720 -
Sounds as if your question has been answered, so a bit of trivia that could possibly apply to the pistol you have...
You tend to see a fair amount of Hi Powers from the early 70's due to the highly successful book and film Serpico coming out around that time. It's based on a true story and the lead character famously carried one due to it's high magazine capacity.
Despite the design having been around for over 35 years, a large part of the population had never heard of them. Thanks to Hollywood Hi Powers saw a surge in sales similar to S&W M29's following Dirty Harry.0 -
We haven't yet answered his question about the value.
We might be able to help with that if he posts photos of his pistol.
Or, he can click on the ADVANCED button on the GB homepage & do a search on completed auctions to find what similar guns have sold for.
