Run a couple of bricks through it and see if its ok, you already did the paperwork, maybe its a real tack driver. Ruger and the dealer are backing you up.

That scorching looks like heat treatment to me. When steel is hardened and tempered to a specific point, then quenched. It has that appearance, just saying?

I've seen several of these and all have had the exact same discoloration of the chamber end of the barrel, at first I thought something was wrong, but with so many looking the same
I figured it might be heat treating .
Strange that I've never noticed this on regular stainless steel 10-22 barrels.

It makes me wonder why it doesn't appear on other stainless 10/22s.
Is it specific to the takedowns only? And of so, I wonder why?

Have you concidered calling or e-mailing Ruger to see what the story is?
It might be quicker than quessing games elsewhere.

Check Ruger's website for recalls on this subject.

I got your guessing game hanging right here.

You're giving me crap because you don't know the answer?

Have you considered keeping your hands of the keyboard instead of displaying your ignorance for all to see here?

Maybe I'm waiting to learn just a little something about this phenomenon BEFORE I call Ruger so I don't sound like a complete idiot which obvioulsy doesn't bother some folks here.

    :)

    Get it?

I don't think anyone needs to cop an attitude over sound advice. Asking the folks who made the thing, is about as sound of advice you can get. Perhaps you should consider some of your own advice about keyboards.

From a machining standpoint, some stainless alloys are harder to machine than other's. That little end piece you see that is discolored, because it was first annealed to machine, then rehardened. The regular 10-22 barrels do not have that, because they are simple cuts, and a larger diameter. That little piece on the takedown has several operations done to it, some quite small.

The reason it is rehardened, is so the bolt don't beat it up.

The reason why I stopped offering my help is the way YOU Tim(tsr1965)
jumped all over me when I posted about a constricted Ruger barrel.
I have been doing this just as long as you and by reading your posts,
you are not any smarter than the others. Just more of a Prick.

TO milkem, Your barrel is fine, shoot it, it will last forever. If it does not, THEN send it to Ruger.

Why do I say this? Been running a John Norrel MG pack in mine for about
5K rounds with no distortion at all of Barrel.

Sorry I offended you oscat271. Yes it has been a learning curve here, and I am still learning. Perhaps you should read the posting guide lines before you engage in the name calling, and just answer the OP?[:D][:D]

What you're missing here, pal, is PTHEIM altered his original post AFTER I responded to it. I think his changing the post proves he was aware of the tone he took originally

His original post was condesceding, demeaning and just all around insulting.

After deleting all the crap he originally posted, the guy now sounds like the main character in "Father Knows Best."

Believe me, if you could read his original post you would have stayed out of this.

So besides being rude, he's a sneak too. Interesting.
