does anyone own a remington 700 muzzle loader? is it a good gun? any dislikes on the gun?

In need of a 209 conversion kit. Im told this will help w/ this poorly designed gun to fire correctly when it gets cold. 0 -
I was shooting with a guy last year who was using a high dollar muzzle loader. He did about everything under the sun to get it to shoot with Pyrodex, with no luck. It only started to shoot descent groups when he switched to BP.
I don't understand why your accuracy would go down the toilet, after 10 years of shooting OK? But give black a chance, what have you got to lose.0 -

Are your sabots old plastic, sometimes they get old and hard and don't take the rifling as good. Use some shooters choice nitro to pull the plastic out of the bore if you think there might be some build up. Perhaps the crown is damage from the ramrod. I never liked pyrodex but the best fake black I have used is American Pioneer. I use the 3F in my 50.
You might try bumping the load up and 5 or 10 grains to see if that helps tighten the group. Try some other bullet, maybe their quality is weak.0 -
Try some different bullet/sabot combinations . Is yours primed with No. 11 caps ! Most of the BP subsitutes need a hot spark to get them lit . There are some 209 conversions out there for the 700 ML . I had a T/C Firehawk that wouldn't shoot Pyrodex well till I converted it over to 209 primers . My Omega likes 777 , 150 gr. of it with a 250 Gr. powershock sabot . 0 -

per pyrodex rep., shelf life is only good for 5 years. maybe your p'dex has gotten "tried"?

If yours is the shorter barrel version, those weren't made for real hot loads and IMHO didn't seem to have as good of heat treating and had some minor issues with erosion. I still have 3 of the MLS including .50 and .54 and I had to retire one because it got where it couldn't group either. The one thing I noticed was how much easier the ramrod was to seat than it was to push it down most of the way down the barrel. It was only the bottom 3" or so that seemed loose and eroded.
The one that had eroded, was the very early model with I think a 24" barrel and it did NOT have the 209 conversion from the factory and only supported 100 grain loads IIRC, and not the 150 grain of the later 26" barrels.0 -
