From what you show, most likley a K-38. Need pictures of the whole pistol to be sure 0 -
Prangle, What you have is a K-38 Combat Masterpiece, pre-model 15 made in 1952, before Smith started using model numbers in 1957. Too bad its in such bad condition. 0 -
With the 4" barrel it would be a Model 15 "Combat Masterpiece" the K-38 had a 6" barrel. It does not have the model number in the crane recess and it shows at least 4 screws -can't see if the bolt tensioning screw is in front of the trigger guard or not. This would make it pre-1954. If the finish is nickle it does not appear to be original, if it is hard chrome or electro-less nickle it is definitely not original. Curve on the hammer spur puzzles me doesn't look like any I am familiar with. 0 -

It cannot be a model 15 if made in 1952 as the serial number indicates since model numbers were not used until 1957. The pre- model 15 K-38 Combat Masterpiece was made with 4" barrels, refer to page 144 in the S&W 3rd edition book.0 -

A little hard to tell from the picture, but to me the hammer spur looks like the one on my '48 vintage K-22. 0
