Gun show M1 Carb. with M2 stuff ?

Saw something unusual at Gun Show over weekend. Standard M1 carbine with pot belly type stock (rec. mkd. M1), when stock removed it had M2 hammer, sear and slide, thats no big deal I guess;but what caught my eye was that the disconnector block was in place. There was no lever or selector or spring, just the block. Vendors explanation made 'common' sense as since the M2 hammer is recessed to accomodate the block it need be there just to fill in the space. Being therefore just a 'spacer' which can do nothing without the "other parts". Any idea on the legality of this configuration?

  An "M2 conversion kit", with or without the gun, is subject to registration. If you don't possess ALL the parts, it's not subject to registration.
  
  OTOH, an LEO needs only "reasonable suspicion" to detain you, so a prudent person would want to avoid having to explain the difference while behind bars. Those parts that are intended only for use only in an M2 (selector lever, disconnector lever & block) should be avoided; the trigger housing, bolt, slide, & sear are fine, & an M1 hammer is cheap enough.

  I wouldn't worry about it. Most of these "Kid Cops" wouldn't know an M2 Carbine from an M2 HB.
