What year did Winchester begin producing the model 70 heavy barrel target with the marksman stock, and in what calibers?

  Model 70 Target. Similar to standard Model 70, made 1955 to 1963. Several calibers including .243 Winchester, .270 Winchester,.30-06, .22 Hornet, .220 Swift, and almost any other caliber on request. Another Model 70 Target rifle with heavy barrel in same calibers made from 1964 to 1971.

  In The Rifleman's Rifle, by Roger C. Rule, he indicates the Target Model with Medium Heavy barrel was first produced in 1936. Calibers listed for that year Target Model were; .220 Swift, .250-3000 Sav., .257 Roberts, .270 WCF, 7mm, and .30-'06. A feature of the Target Model was the Marksman stock.
