Ruger 3-screw SS Converts

I understand the barrel diameter for the .22 rimfire is .222" whereas the diameter for the 22WMRF is .224"; If that is true, what was the diameter for the Ruger Single Six Convertible or other guns that shot both the LR and WMRF- seams they would go with the larger diameter, for safety reasons, but that said, wouldn't that cause marginal accuracy with the LR?

  There are several threads previous to your current thread, that do address this concern. I seem to remember, that Ruger does use the larger diameter bore, and that is why the convertible Single Sixes, possess only working accuracy, and not super accuracy, like the S&W K22, or Colt Diamondback. Their accuracy is very servicable, though.

  Short answer - yes, you are correct. HOWEVER, not all .22 LR bullet diameters are created equal. You must test different brands and types to find the most accurate (and worst accurate) in your particular handgun.

  I am setting here with two .22 shells.
  1 st. is a .22lr.HP.GOLD REMINGTON.
  It measures .224 caseing, .223 Bullet.
  2nd. is a WINCHESTER SUPREM .22 MAGNUM 39gr. JHP
  It measeres .238 caseing .222 bullet(how can that be the MAGNUM is smaller then the .22lr) I have Measered 4 times with a KOBALT DIGITAL 6" CALIBER WITH DISPLAY.
  If this correct and the Bullets are with-in .001 then they should shoot OK for a handgun.but not a cpmpettion Rifle.

  It's been my understanding that the first Single Six's did have .222 bores.. When the convertible was introduced, the bore was increased to .224.. This was for ALL single six's, with or without the magnum cylinder.. I don't know what the situation is with the Bearcat, since it was offered with a magnum cylinder for a brief time..

  To be measured CORRECTLY, the jacketed bullets of the 22 WMR, need to be pulled from the cases. You also, might want to get a set of NIST traceable gage blocks, with a recent calibration, and check your digital calipers. The thick crusty lube on that 22LR bullet from remington, does not count for the bullet diameter either.

  My understand has been that, yes, the dual cylinder revolvers go with the large .224 diameter with the theory being that the soft l.r. pill will easily bump up to the larger diameter and offer "servicable" accuracy.
  Machine rest testing might offer some enlightening data but I concluded long ago that I'm not a good enough shot to discern an accuracy edge one way or the other for l.r. ammo in the early .222 and later .224 barrels.
  Shoot and enjoy. If you're looking for that last bit of accuracy edge you'll likely be looking to one of the semi-target pistols anyway.
