i just picked one up today and all i can find out is that there are less than 2000 imported into us.do they have any value?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, they were imported from Australia in the 90's, before the ban. Only seen couple at shows, no actual hands-on?
Since only a limited number were imported and no more are coming in, might have some collectors value?

I've seen quite a few of them. Not sure where this 2,000 number is coming from.
They have quite a few pros and cons.
Pros: 3 lug bolt, spring loaded firing pin, AR mags, AR180 gas system, easy shooting and pleasant.
Cons: Cheap. Really cheap. No parts...ever, anywhere. Think Daewoos are tough to find parts for? Ha, nothing compared to these things. Fragile charging handle return spring. Scary fragile. Spot-welded simple sheet metal construction. Cheap rear sight prone to breakage.
The Australian Government bought ALL the tooling when the company had moved to Tasmania...then chopped it up for scrap.
The 89 ban and the fact that the Oz .mil chose a Oz-made Steyr AUG (which had its own share of teething problems for a design which was already battle proven and 10 years old) which they call the F88 to replace their "Commonwealth Rifles" (L1A1s).
The AAA (Australian Automatic Arms) SAP (Semi-Automatic Pistol) was imported for a few more years. It's a Leader rifle with no buttstock. Until it too, was banned from importation by Herr Klintler, via administrative shenanigans, same as Daddy Shrub had done in 1989. The then Rapist-in-Chief banned the importation of "Assault Pistols" by name, HK SP89, SITES Spectre, Steyr SPP, AAA SAP...in the run up to 1994s AWB.0 -
I have had one for 10 years or so. Never shot it. They are some what rare in that one does not see them. They also do not sell. I say that because when they come on line the pictures are the same pictures that were used 6 months to a year earlier. One has been coming and going for about 4 years, same picture, and the price did drop a couple of times to 4 hundred less. The last time it went up and the time ran out. After the election it will come back. If you break something save the part cause your gunsmith will want it. One sold here for $800 in Aug.? and one, not sold, not as clean, has been listed and relisted for $650 and $620. Please let me know how you like it. mcaso@olypen.com 0 -
