BARREL VICE BUSHINGS
I have an Barrel Vise that I just got a NEW SET of Wooden Bushing for.
Problem is.
I can not get the Vise to tighten enough; so the Barrel will not turn
in the Wooden Bushing.
Is there anything that I can put between the wood bushing and Barrel to stop the Barrel from turning in the bushings.

You can try rosin but if the barrel is on tight like the Remington M700's you actually will need a split aluminum bushing with a near perfect fit and a much better method of adding pressure.

I had the same issue. I took two thin pieces of lead sheet and crush deformed them around the barrel in the wooden blocks, job solved. 0 -
Gents,
I have read that paper bags (may have been BROWN paper grocery bags) have rosin in them. Wrap a piece of this material around the barrel, then tighten the vise around the paper & barrel. It may give you better traction.

I keep a roll of heavy-duty carpet tape in the shop..
Joe~ It's a tape with adhesive on both sides.. Comes in different widths and thicknesses.. I use both the thin and the cushioned, for different applications.. You'll find it at any hardware store, or Depot/Mart..0 -

I have aluminum sleeves that are split and spread about 1/4 Gap between the ends have about 5 of them with different inside hole diameter. I take JB weld But around barrel about 1/2 inch from receiver slide the closes sleeve over the JB weld put into barrel vice and tighten let the whole thing set up for 12 hours Come back with action wrench and LARGE brass hammer put action wrench in LARGE vice one hit with Brass hammer LIKE YOU MEAN IT and WALA barrel unscrews removed barrel and aluminum sleeve . take benzomatic torch heat aluminum sleeve until JB starts to bubble and with wood stick tap sleeve off barrel. Take plastic scraper and scrape jb weld off barrel . Will not leave a mark [:0][:)]on barrel like other items will Works ever time for me [^]
EDITDON'Tsplit other side Use as is they will work MUCH better That way.let JB set up with just the sleeve on the barrel THEN put in barrel vice. YOU will be amazed not a mark [^][^]
Rosen leather ETC can mark bluing if it slips JB will not slip and with just a little heat on Aluminum sleeve is easy to remove.0 -
I also have a set of Five aluminum split one side.
I was thinking of spliting the other side of them.then trying them.
