3 inch 16 gauge
Recently purchase a 16 gauge model 390 bolt action mossberg shotgun from a gunbroker seller. When cleaning it I noticed that the barrel is factory stamped for 2.75 and 3 inch shells. Anyone else have one stamped like this? Were they all stamped like this or is this just a mistake on this gun?

No mistake. Bluebook (31st Edition dated 2010) says that the Mossberg 390 series, 390, 390A, 390K-B and 490A were made in 1971 thru 1976 in 16 gauge with 3 inch chambers 0 -
So where does one get 3" 16 ga ammo? 0 -
I do not think that there are any 16ga.3" Shells, so you are going to shoot 2-3/4" shells. 0 -
Can't believe this would be a 3 inch chamber. Would think that it is just a standard stamp, but I think I will get a chamber gauge and verify the 2.75. 0 -
Very nice. Too bad there is no major ammo manufacturer making 3" 16 gage. 0 -
3" 16's have been around since before the turn of the century in Europe, and were offered by L C Smith (to name one) shortly after 1900. I own one made in 1907 and have several 3" shells made by Peters and Ajax.
I don't know if Continental ammo manufacturers are still producing them.0 -
None still produced to my knowledge.. 0
