I'd take the Savage, But you certainly wouldn't have any problem with a Remington shooting well, I would think. The Savage is going to be a lot less money. Normally, I would say if you ever went to sell it, the Remington would bring more. But, because it's a 'custom shop' gun they will charge extra for it and you probably won't get that back if you do go to sell it.

Personally, if you go with the Model 7 thru the Remington custom shop, it is going to be near $1700.00. That brings in a choice, or three. If you do not want to spend that much, go with the Savage. If you do not care about the price, I would not give the Model 7 a second thought...in fact, it wouldn't be on my short list of choices.

My choice would be a Cooper Model 22, or Model 54.

Zactly what I mean. The 'custom shop will charge a fortune for putting a substandard barrel on a good but not great action. Paying an extra $1k for that is, IMO, stoopud, or at least a poor waste of money...there are smarter ways to waste it. [;)]
One could have a very nice custom built for that price. The Coopers offer that 'nicer semi-custom' look without totally breaking the bank. Still, the model 14's aren't bad looking rifles. Something to note though, for what ever reason, Savage chose to use Walnut stained birch for the .250 stock as opposed to more popular model 14 chamberings that have real walnut stocks. See below:

If you want a slim, trim action to compliment the little 250 Savage cartridge I'd go with the Rem 7.
