    I just bought a marlin 39a and was wondering how old it is. The serial # is J8485. Thank you to all that reply.

    Pretty sure they're still being made, however Marlin is run by Remington and the reviews are less than stellar. It seems to me the best approach when buying a Marlin for now is to get one made by Marlin, either used or "old new stock".

    I have one, they're real adult sized 22s and worth the search.

    Your request got me wondering, haven't actually seen one for sale in a long time? On-line site doesn't have them listed as 39A's? Being advertised as "Marlin 22LR LEVER". Don't know why they have done this? Unless they have made substantial changes to cause them to drop the name they have used for years.

    EDIT #1, Lack of availability might be because of the election next month. Some folks are afraid it's going to be a replay of what happened 4 years ago. Desirable guns have dried up all over. I have my eye on a couple of guns, that seem to be only available from scalpers, at way over MSRP.

    Guess it's a good thing I bought that 1897T (straight grip/short octagon barrel Model 39) as a birthday present for my wife about 10 years ago. I test it out occasionally as part of the Quality Control program[;)]

    Just love the feel of Win94 weight in a 22.

    i have a bout a 8/9 of them different models and about half adozen 9422 i have not seen one in any of my distributers lists for a long time..there was a rumor about marlin (remlins) lever auctions being backed off prodution at the rem plant??

    killed my day telling me Marlin is gone. Other then the 66 22 they made good guns. Their lever never took off like the Winchester. Read several stories and talked to people that liked them better then the other guns. A few buts saved in Alaska with the big bore levers. Lots more slept better knowing the guide carried one.

    Best part of Marlin guns, the 22's can be picked up for a fraction of the price of new fancy name guns. Those Micro Grove barrels will out shoot most of them.

    Marlin is not gone they are still producing the same weapons under their name with new ownership. There are people who have Marlin collections that would like to see there be a rush to buy the rifles made prior to the purchase so to increase their investment. If you have followed the transition of the company there was bitter feeling from the unions that were left behind when they moved the company so it would not be unheard of to hear negatives about the company. The new factory is really a farley new operation, they have a life time warranty on the rifles and if they can keep the quality up and service their weapons they will do all right.

    buy one with out safety...last weekend went to 2 large shows saw 4 39's one M carbine rust speckles 400.00 one 39century wood finsh peeling 400...show No2 modern 39A 500.00 and one mint 39M carbine 400.00 guess what went home with me???[^] i have not seen a 39 in any wholesaler since spring i look 2/3 times aday for guns

    I would trip over 5 new 39's to get to 1 old 39. Mine was made in '69 and it is a gem.
