    Nice rifle, if I had it I'd be shooting it.

    So if the letter doesn't specify the tang sight, how does one know it was factory option? Just asking.

    According to research Winchester installed\sold sights had a "N" underneath them with no other marking ie: Marbles, Lyman etc on top

    Lyman tang sights were factory options for all of the older Winchester lever-action models, and were listed in the original catalogs.

    The starting bid amount is at least twice the actual value of that Fancy Sporting Rifle. The overall graded condition of the gun does not warrant the asking price. At auction, it might sell for as much as $15,000, but I have my doubts. Additionally, I sincerely doubt that Warren Newman (the CFM Curator) offered the owner a $50K Tax credit on that rifle.

    I'm going to have to agree with Bert on this one. I don't see any fiery case colors left on the frame and the overall condition for the price your asking is way off. In order for you to get your starting price the gun would have to have almost all of it's original case colors. There's a huge price gap between 20% case colors and 95% case colors. $15k is probably the top of the mark on this one you might get lucky and get $20k at auction but I doubt that will happen.

    I was thinking more in the 8-10k range but it's not mine and the guy is really fond of it and it's his so I guess he gets to name the price. I think I have convinced him to hang on to it and hand it down to his family. He has other run of the mill 86's he can part with if he needs to sell something.
