Remington 870 Wingmaster Barrels

Are all 12 ga 870 Wingmaster barrels interchangeable? I have seen people selling barrels and stating that a 3 1/2" and 3" barrels will fit a 2 3/4" receiver, but you can only shoot 2 3/4 " shells. I have seen barrels that are 3" and say to use with 3" receivers only. What is the real skinny?

  NOTE: Model 870 Extra Barrels with 3" chambers will fit Super Magnum, Magnum, and 2-3/4" receivers. These barrels will handle both 2-3/4" and 3" shells when used on Magnum receivers. Use only 2-3/4" shells when these barrels are used on 2-3/4" receivers. from

  IIRC, The receivers are the same...It is the location of the ejector that renders a non-magnum receiver a no go for longer shells...The longer shells try to eject too soon and won'tclear the ejectionport...

  Some barrels marked "Special Field" have the recoil lug in a different spot than normal.
