Win. 94 Eastern Carbine
This question is for Bert H , but anyone with an answer feel free to jump in . There's a Model 94 on the other auction site , that the seller describes as an Eastern Carbine . It is a late 40s flat band with the long forend but not the traditional Carbine buttstock . It has a standard pre 64 buttstock with the flat checkered buttplate . I always thought the Eastern Carbines had the same buttstock as the Saddle Ring carbines . Have I been mistaken , or does this gun have the wrong buttstock ? It's a nice 32 Special !

i have a eastern carbine made in the mid 20,that is just like a saddle ring carbine but without the saddle ring.it has the same carbine stocks and sights.i don,t know the cut off date for the eastern carbines,but i,m sure bert has the cut off date and serial number range. eastbank. 0 -

A true "Eastern" Carbine was made before April/May of 1932, when the saddle ring was still a standard feature. In April/May of 1932, Winchester discontinued the saddle ring as a standard item, and listed it as a special order option.
All "Eastern" carbines should have a Nickel Steel marked barrel (versus Proof Steel), traditional carbine sights, and the old style carbine butt stock & butt plate. It is possible to find an "Eastern" with a hard rubber, smooth steel, or a serrated steel shotgun butt plate though. The defining factor in it being an "Eastern" is specifically when it was made. The Flat-band carbines were "Sporting Carbines" as listed in the catalogs, and the seller in question has his terminology mixed up.0 -
