Shotshell FTE
Long story: My mossberg 500 long ago would not extract every so often Winchester xpert high brass steel shot. So I stopped using that brand and shell type. Went on problem free.
May not be related: Someone gave me some steel winchester xperts #7's, I had an issue of ripping the head off the plastic hull. Sometime after I stopped using winchester shells.
Every so often it will leave a Remington Nitro mag BB in the chamber as well.
Fast forward to present times thinking my issue was ammo related i bought some 6 shot high brass steel federals. Once the gun got warm and slightly dirty it began leaving shells in the chamber.
So doing a little internet research I bought a chamber hone with oil and polished the chamber.... After doing that twice I am still haveing shells left in the chamber....
At this point I am fabergausted as to what the hell is going on. After the second honing every so often it would leave a shell lodged in the chamber....
Any ideas...
The left extractor and spring was replaced (due to a b-square scope mount screw that failed) a while ago. However the right has never been touched. This is the only thing I can think to change is the moly spring for the right extractor........[:(!]
The real agrivating thing is I was shooting up some old duck and pheasant Winchesters and the damn thing never missed a beat... Is shell quality lacking today?

Have you looked at the extractors themselves. Sometimes the hook edge isn't well defined and square. Dress them lighly with a diamond needle file. New springs wouldn't hurt. While the bolt is out see how well the extractors engauge a case in position on the face. 0 -
Change extractors on the old girl. Problem is not uncommon. 0 -
One of the Rem 870 Express I have has extraction problems with almost all higher powered(heavier than light trap loads)ammo. The chamber is rough and I've cleaned it using several fairly aggressive methods. I think a good polish job will fix it but at this time I'm not going to spend any cash on it. I use the gun to scatter the numerous nuisance birds that gather near the feed bunks and one shot at a time is enough.
Have you tried cleaning the chamber?0 -

I polished it with a hone. Twice! See above post.0
