Rossi .223 rifle
I purchased a .223 single shot rifle from Rossi and when i took it to range it refused to fire very light primer hits.Called rossi and sent it back to there co. After 2 1/2 months get rifle back with a note saying hammer spring was changed.It hits the primer now and punches hole in primer Pin locks into primer and barrel cannot be opened.Called them and i asked to speak to a gunsmith I was told he would contact me by phone in 24-48 hrs. That was 3 days ago

Bottom line...when you get it back, get rid of it, and get something like a TC Encore, or H&R. H&R are made in Illion, NY. Rossi, are made in South America.

The initial problem you experienced with light firing pin hits, might be ammo specific. If your using the inexpensive imported ammo, likely they have much harder primers. Most of this stuff is specifically made to be blasting ammo from semi-auto rifles.
I've always had better luck using Federal commercial ammo. Their primers seem to be much more sensitive, although it's also quite a bit more expensive.0 -
Rossi is not a brand to buy unless you can do some stone work on the guns, then they seems to work very well. I have owned several pistols and rifles from them and they all required stone work to work smoothly. Although I have never sent one back their customer service was always good about telling me the clearances the gun was to be built to so I could correct the problems. On the positive side the steel was superior to many other guns and the price was cheap. Once finished properly they have been very good accurate guns. (I've had S&W's with the same issues and bad CS, so it's not just Rossi)
Should it be right when you buy it, yes, and they are not. but there are a few good points.0 -

This is a common misconception, though its not strictly true.
Taurus and Rossi actually own separate manufacturing facilities, and the two have a complex business relationship. They are separate companies, and neither one is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the other.
Taurus bought out the rights to manufacture Rossi handguns several years ago, and currently makes all the handguns sold domestically under the Rossi name at a relatively new facility in Sao Leopoldo edit: corrected spelling Brazil. At the time they bought the rights, they also bought Rossi's tooling, too.
In contrast, I'm pretty sure all the the Taurus-branded handguns are still made at its formerly Beretta-owned plant in Sao Paulo.
In turn, all of the the long arms are made by Rossi at its own older facility in Sao Leopoldo. That includes the Rossi-branded longarms based on Taurus designs.
Both companies share the same domestic importer to bring the guns into the USA.
In short, Taurus makes all the handguns (including the ones branded "Rossi") and Rossi makes all the longarms (including the ones that are longarm versions of Taurus designs).
Anyway, back on the original question, I'd think tuning by a competent gunsmith should be able to fix the problem. In theory, all Rossi-branded guns of recent manufacture are covered by a lifetime warranty. In practice, the warranty is only as good as the company issuing it, and a good gun is better than a good warranty.0 -
I think you get what you pay for. It is sad that anyone would sell less than functional stuff but that is just how it is period. I think that it's fixable and I wouldn't be sending it back for 3 months or paying someone else.
I have had several of the H&R. All shot ok, some really exceptional. The rimless cases can be trickier than rimmed in the older design.0 -

the single shot .223 caliber rifle that I bought 2 years ago is the biggest piece of crap on the face of the earth.Sent it in twice for repairs,but still shoots terrible no matter what I feed it.
I want to get rid of it buit have too much conscience to foist it off on someone else.

Just got home from shooting my Rossi M92 .38/.357. What a BLAST. No problems whatsoever.(Only 1 box ammo). Not the smoothest action, but it's new. I imagine it will smooth up some w/use. Very accurate too. Nailed cly pigeons at 50 yrds w/ease. Then the pieces. 0
