Identify This Magazine and US Military Device
I need help identifying a couple items. The first is a magazine/clip for a rifle. The only markings is the number319181 0n the bottom, and a cross located on the bottom and on the right top of the follower. This measures about 3 1/4"long, 2 1/2" deep at the rear, 1" wide at the bottom rear, and 13/16" at the bottom front. Any info as to model of the firearm this fits will be appreciated!

The second item may not be gun related. It is a steel box measuring about 8 5/8" long, 5 1/4"wide, and 1 3/4" thick. The top is marked with US and under that is a very small number: 10245736. There is a carrying strap on the left end. On the front is a rotating switch And two clasps. The underside has a belt clip. The right end has 4 small holes and a round button with 2 holes that may be to fit a tool into and remove the button. I thought the 4 holes might be to plug something into but they seem to be plugged. There are 2 dummy D batteries and a piece of foam rubber in the box. Apparently the dummy batteries used with 4 battries gives 3 Volt and using 6 battries gives 4,5 volt. Any info as to use and value will be appreciated!

Swiss Schmidt-Rubin M1896/1911 Rifle Magazine
All I can find on the other item is a battery case for some kind of guided missile system.

I'mjust guessing here. The box looks like some old style battery tester because of the batteries. The 4 plugged holes may be contacts to test other batteries, like the differing sized contacts for 9v batteries on current testers, using wires. 0 -
The pictures I have found for the French MAS and the Schmidtt Ruben do not look like this. Can anyone post pictures matching this Mag? Also any more ideas on the box? Is there an army surplus site that might help? Thanks, Gunswapper. 0 -
Most common of the Swiss rifle magazines, that are around nowadays are the K-31. Thousands of K-31's have been imported and sold as surplus here in the States during the last 15 years. They are different then the mag in your photo, in that the bottom is rounded not flat. Here is a photo off the net of a K-31 mag. Your mag might be for a Swiss Model 1911 rifle?

Still looking for info on the US Military Box The battries shown in the pics are dummies, look like wood with aluminium inserts. They apparently are used with 4 batteries to achieve the lower voltage. There are 4 light bulbs in the box; the knob on the outside turns to the right from a starting point marked 'OFF'. The battery testing box has a rheostat to ramp up full voltage to check unknown battery strength. If the light bulbs glow brightly.....your batteries are good. The foam compartment would be a storage spot for extra replacement bulbs.
You should put a couple of cells in there and see if the bulbs glow.
You would remove the dummy batteries for testing three cell flashlights batteries.
The outside contacts would have to be tested with a VOM to check for any voltage once it's turned on. Or like what was said, they could be used to test 9 volt batteries.
It seems to be a primitive device to check batteries, so you would check your battery strength by how much your bulb glowed??? I would rather assume it was designed to check the strength of 2 and 3 cell flashlight bulbs.
I believe value would be nominal.....you would need more US military markings to give it collectable value, as to who made it, it's destination in the military and also it's age needs to be pinned down.

Does not look like it would be a battery tester. The 2 lines of batteries are in parallel so would not tell much if one of the 4 or 6 batteries was bad.
If you figure it out post what it is.
Can not find much on it. No pictures or idea of what it was used for.

...whatever it is, it is made to double the amperage, not the voltage, that is required to do whatever it is supposed to do. Like goodgunparts said, the positive ends of the battery columns are combined, and so are the negative ends. Two of those batteries, in one column, will give you 3 volts, and 3 of them will give you 4.5 volts.Paralelling the columns gives you the same voltage, in each column, but it doubles the amperage.(You could use just one column, to get "normal" voltage & amperage, or two columns, to get "normal" voltage & twice the amperage.) It sure looks like a piece of test equipment, that feeds voltage & amperage into something else (a variable power supply, if you will). 0
