REM. Model 7
I have a NIB model seven in stainless, synthetic, 300 SAUM. I can't find any info on the recoil pad (R-3 ?), or if it has the X-Mark trigger, and if the pad is the R-3. It has no Date code visible, but the SN is S7652309. Any help with those two queries? THX Keith

The date code would be under the stock forend. The recoil pad is most likely a R-3(SVL Limb Saver). If there is an adjustment screw visable thru the trigger gaurd, behind the trigger, without taking the stock off, then you have an X-Mark trigger. Otherwise, with no visable adjustments, with the stock on, it is a standard 700 trigger.
Just an FYI, the X-Mark trigger is basically the same 700 trigger, with an externally adjustable weight of pull. Remington had to try to keep up with the Savage Accu-Trigger, which, iMHO, are both failures to the shooting industry.

Yes, I agree, that the older Model 700 triggers were the standard by which the industry was judged. However, since about 1985, they have steadily gone down hill, to which point the X-Mark Pro, and the standard 700 trigger are both failures to us shooter's. Grab A Tikka T-3 once and see what that trigger is like off the shelf. Blows ANYTHING American made away.

The Accu-trigger, is a deceptive device. It is essentially a two stage trigger, with a second lever to activate the first stage. They give you a screw for adjustment, but that relieves the pressure off only one spring...the other is captive. However what you can adjust, you don't have to take the stock off to do it. Basically if a trigger has to have a gimmicky externa adjustment on it, it is a failure.

failures to the shooting industry
The only M700 trigger that I have experience with is one that was made in 1962, before the ambulance chasers gummed-up the gun business, so I am unfamiliar with current/recent production. However, that old M700 trigger is a very good trigger, for a sporter. It's travel is impreceptable and at 3 pounds the rifle fires. So unless the recent production trigger is different, I'd take exception to referring to it as a failure.0 -
The Accu-trigger certainly has not been a failure for Savage, and mine seems to function pretty well indeed. 0 -
Keith, I have the same rifle in 7mm SAUM, SS black plastic stock. No I don't believe it is a R3 pad. Mine is hard and not think enough. Also, an odd ball size. The only aftermarket pad I find is a trim to fit. It could use it, great hunting rifle. A little light for testing groups.
Mine has the old trigger, hope that helps. Also, mine's not new in box. Has turned into the only rifle I really hunt with anymore. Would like a 24" barrel though.0
