Ruger makes a version of their Hawkeye, called a Scout Rifle, that has a detachable MAGAZINE(Not a CLIP. A clip is something entirely different) system. I do believe that, if memory serves me, it is an M14/M1-A style magazine.

Also if you are running a Remington 700, Badger Ordnance, makes the M-5 trigger gaurd system, and it retails for $345.00, that uses a type of magazine, either similar to the M14, or an AR-10.

I don't know of a readily available set up using M14 magazines in a Remington 700 or bolt rifle. I have the Ruger GSR and it uses single stack AI type magazines and Ruger's own poly magazines. The highest capacity I've seen on either is 10 rounds.

Pacific Tool & Gauge makes an M5 type detach magazine at a very good price, $129.00 for the bottom metal only:

It takes AI and Alpha magazines, with a touch of modification (a small part of the outside rib gets in the way & must be relieved - takes 2 minutes) accept the Ruger poly magazines if you're using 308 derived cases - 7-08, 243, 22-250 and such. I use one on a Remington 700 VLS in 6mm Remington but stick generally to the Ruger 5 shot poly mags.

I think 10 rounds is about the most you'll be able to get without going custom, either with an M14 magazine or specially made AI magazines.

I just sold a brand new Badger Ordnance bottom metal kit for a model 700 Remington 300 Win mag lenth action on the auction side. They are very well made, a quality product.

Thank you all for your contributions to my education on the topic. TSR, sorry, some of old folks still call those things "clips".

I guess that I should give my old friend's son a call to see if he still as his dad's converted rifle possibly for sale!
