Browning TWENTY no picture of Mr Browning ?
Hi - I have a Browning A5 - marked: Fabrique Natle D Armes De Gurre, Herston, Belique" and "**ACIER SPECIAL C.20 2 3/4 cart. and has a serial number : 5ZFN over 777xx == which I think means 1965 manufactured date (?) yes ?
But the engraving does not have portrait of Mr Browning pn the side that I seem to see on so many other TWENTY's - just says: TWENTY, is engraved - but no portrait ?
Is this a 1965 ? No USA marks - so maybe a Euro version is different ??? If this is to basic of a question- sorry I am a newbie, trying to learn the details - thanks for any imput or remarks.

Blue Book shows "5Z",being date code for 1965.
From the markings being in French, specially "ACIER SPECIAL". Meaning special steel in English. Appears to have been manufactured for European sale. U.S. import law requires manufactured products to be marked with country of origin. Usually in would say "Made in Belgium" or something similar in English.0 -
Euro version, IF I remember correctly did not have any engraving ect. on them...the prefix indicates as stated a 65 model/ 0 -
I have an A5 20 ga from 1966. It does have a small engraving of John Browning bust, but on the barrel, in addition to the proof marks, as pictured, it says only "Browning Arms Company StLouisMO & MontrealPQ" "Made in Belgium" and on the right side **Special Steel 20 gauge shells 2 3/4". On the receiver above the bust is "Browning" and above that is Twenty. I don't see any of the FM Hertal,etc, but I haven't looked under the wood. But your gun definitely sounds like a different production.
