Winchester small pistol primers

I was digging through some old boxes today and found a flat of these. I have no idea where they came from and was hoping someone here could tell me how old they are. The carton is in great shape so I'd think they will work when i get my reloading bench set back up. Am just curious about them.

The lot number looks like HCLA235

    You probably got them from me, way back. I've used lots of old primers with no problems.How come your bench isn't up yet, you slackin off out there?

    They're likely to old to be safely used. If you send them to me I can dispose of them properly. [:D] Just funnin' ya. Depending on how they've been stored - dry and cool preferably - they can maintain their usefulness for many years.

    Best to post a photo of the box. Winchester primers vary quite a bit, depending on age. From personal experience the older nickel plated ones in the red and white boxes, were better, (more sensitive), then the recent ones that are plain unplated brass.

    I had so much frustration with the more recent unplated ones. That I only use Federal primers, any more.

    Yea been slacking off. Been so much other stuff that needed done here I haven't given reloading much thought till recently.

    Actually this house doesn't have enough room in it for a reloading bench It is almost 300 SF smaller then my house in CT. But there is a 12x16ft shed that will have a bench and shelves set up my next time off. I figure if i put plastic over the louvers and close the door a small heater should be able to keep it tolerable through the winter. If I need to I can put a plastic sheeting ceiling in.


    The primers are in a white box with PRIMERS in the center and small pistol for standard pistol loads underneath, and WSP in a box a bit off to the right

    I still have some like that, still work fine.

    I have some of the same and they're the cat's meow for loading the Hornet with Lil'Gun and your favorite 35 or 40 grain pill.
    Many primers from the '60's and they still give great performance.

    I'm still using Primers I got in the early '70,s.
    As long as they were kept dry and in not too bad temp change, they should be OK.
