FN BROWNING

Hi guys...I bought an FN Herstal Belgique 9mm HI-POWER ser #153737
the finish looks parkerized...the barrel has been replaced with one made in 1982... good fit...OK heres the question...The gun has NO PROOF MARKS..Just the ser# and the FN name on the left side...3 lines...no evedence that the were removed...anyone know what gives with that....all I can say is Hmmmmm....BTW it has a flat paddle safty lever that doesnt hold the slide for disassembly

    There were a bunch of HI-Powder knock-offs made in Hungary in the 1980's time frame. Supposedly for sale to 3rd world type countries, for folks who very likely wouldn't know the difference.

    Probably it was the same outfit that sold Fegyver AP 63 pistols with phoney Walther and Mauser slide markings.

    No I had an FEG... this is the real thing. I've seen others on line with the same characteristics....paddle safty, finish and ser# placement...it has a new browning barrel made in 82..wouldnt fit in a copy

    Proof Marks are required by Belgian law. At one time their were H-P's assembled in Portugal. I don't recall if these had Belgian Proof Marks? You might try doing a GOOGLE image search to see if you can find any, and see if they are proofed.

    EDIT #1, U.S. Law requires imported manufactured products to be marked with country of origin. If some of the "Assembled in Portugal" H-P's came in through the grey market, it's possible they wouldn't have had the "Assembled in Portugal" marking?

    Just an FYI, many High Power parts are direct drop in on the FEG clones, some later FEG's were not clones rather having some S&W 5900 series similarities(to the point of not taking High Power Mags). Right now I am looking at a feg on my desk with a 1944 FN High Power barrel installed. A picture of the safety would help a lot. SN# on left side? Now that is strange, all my High Powers(2 FEG's, a WW2 Ingliss and a WW2 FN) have SN# on right side on Frame, slide and Barrel on the Ingliss and FN, front grip strap, and right side of slide and barrel on FEG's. With the safety it sounds like at least a MK III... Looking around the net it's possibly a Israeli contract HP as am seeing some of those did not have proofs supposedly
