AR-15 cleaning question

Hi guys,

I have been cleaning my AR with a brass cleaning rod breech to muzzle and would like to know how best to clean the crown of the weapon. Which I have not figured out a technique for. The A2 bird cage flash hider has made it seemingly impossible for me to clean the crown of the weapon which is rather dirty. What can I do folks?

  It's not a Swiss watch. If you really must, unscrew the flashhider.

  LOL As many of us on here are, I can be a bit meticulous about maintaining my guns. But there is no way I am going to go through the BS that it takes to reinstall the A2 flash hider over a tiny bit of carbon build up. So I guess I agree with you that it is not a Swiss watch. If I figure out a technique, I will post it. If any of you guys have any ideas, please feel free to post.

  Stuff a patch soaked with a good solvent up in there and let it sit a while to loosen things up, then go at it with brushes.
  
  Besides a standard toothbrush style M16 brush, a pistol rod with an old 9mm brush is handy for this, as is an old 5.56 bore brush for scrubbing out the slots on the flash suppressor.

  As said, this ain't rocket surgery. Wet it with solvent, let set, scrub what you can with a toothbrush. Q tips are good for reaching awkward spaces. If it really bugs you, use a water-pic toothcleaner.

  Never worried about that.
  
  But, I did buy Brownell's special AR cleaning brush that gets into the flutes on the barrel extension at the breech; that works quite well.

  I use the 'Safewasher' system which will loosen the carbon buildup with some soaking.

  And there are a 1/2 dozen others found with a search.
  
  I remove the flash hider for soaking then soak the threads and crown on the barrel. Clean thoroughly, dry then re-install.
