Question about Colt Vest Pocket 25 caliber
Selling this pistol for a local who inherited it after a family member passed away. It is in really rough shape and is missing the magazine. Can anyone tell me what a good starting price would be on this, perhaps what year it was made (serial number 246623) and I also need to know if these pistols had a magazine disconnect as it does not fire when the trigger is pulled. I don't have my copy of the Blue Book here at home so not sure what the value is in this condition. Here is a link:

Start it at $75 with no reserve. It will probably go higher for the parts, but a pitting gun that doesn't fire doesn't generate much interest. 0 -
I had one a while back. Much nicer condition; 80+ finish, magazine, fully functional. I couldn't find a gun shop interested in it. Pure parts gun. I was going to say $50 to $100.oo so the idea of starting it at 75 makes sense to me. If no interest after 2 weeks I'd take it down a notch. Just me, but I wouldn't play around with reserves. I pass on reserve auctions. Haven't got time for the games. 0 -

I just put the reserve on there temporarily while I try to figure out what its worth, I will remove the reserve after I talk to the owner of the pistol to see what his rock bottom price is, thanks!0 -
1920 is DOM per my reference.
IMHO you'll have no problem getting at least $75 out of it. I've seen lot worst pitting then that. All it needs is to be sandblasted to blend in the pitting with the metal surface. Then have it Parkerized. Next thing you know it will be on the auction as a rare GI issue Colt .25, only a handful known to exist. Issued to Canal Zone harbor pilots for only one month in 1943.0 -
A magazine disconnect was added after the first few years.. I don't recall the serial number.. I would guess yours has one.. Look in the mag well.. I think you'll be able to see the lever that's proud of the back-strap.. You can depress it with a tool, and it should fire.. 0 -
Starting bid of $75?! Gosh, some guys are a little out of touch with the market on these today! The grips alone could bring that price -- as could the holster; so that's $150 there.
Can the family find the magazine? That's another $75-$100.
You certainly can attract interest starting with a low starting-bid, but if it closes on a "slow" day or time, you might not get the maximum price it could bring.
People searching for that pistol -- or parts -- are likely to be typing in "Colt 1908" and possibly "Hammerless" too, so try to work those in the title. You'll probably do better selling the holster separately; have "vintage" in the title on that one.

It has the magazine safety (post SN 141000 pistols do).
The lack of a magazine will hurt you price-wise. If you can borrow a magazine somewhere and test that it works, you'll probably do better. (The magazine safety is activated at the top of the frame, near the slide; at the link above, you can open the schematic to see the parts. It's probably possible to insert something to disengage the magazine safety; it should require pushing forward to disengage it.)
The exterior condition looks like its "rough" due to storage issues more than usage. Showing/telling about the internal condition -- particularly the barrel -- can be important. (Corrosive primer ammo did a lot of damage to barrels on old pistols like that one.)
I'll let you do a search on the auction side (use terms like "1908 Colt Pocket") to see what's comparable, but I'd guess with the holster and pistol as it is, you should be able to get something close to $300 for it.0 -
