Winchester 94 AE XTR 30-30 Mystery Gun

I have a USRAC Winchester AE XTR 30-30 that I can't seem to track down. It's serial number puts it firmly in 1987 manufacture, it has the rebounding hammer but not the cross bolt or tang safety. Here's the unusual part - it has a raised comb butt stock like the 307 and 356 big bore XTR's of the mid 1980's. Couldn't have been a stock swap with one of these, as they had a beefed up receiver and the stock wouldn't have fit up properly with a flat sided 30-30. It's NOT a Deluxe model - has the standard XTR checkering. I've seen XTR's from 1986 and 1988, even bought a 1987 catalog, and it shows the XTR with the regular straight stock configuration. I've only seen ONE other 30-30 like it in over ten years of looking at 94's on Gunbroker and everywhere else. Mine, by the way, is in pristine condition inside and out, not even sure if it was ever shot (before I got it, that is) and I got it right here on Gunbroker 8 years ago for a measly 205 bucks! Can anyone shed some light on this mystery XTR? Thanks!

  Other than the raised comb, it's a typical AE XTR - sling studs, checkered stock, basic open sights (no front hood).

  I was in the business back then. USRA was knocking out all kinds of stuff looking for a winner.
  
  Maybe some vice president got a wild hair up you know where, and had some made up on spec just to see how it would look. Took it to the shot show to see if it would generate any orders, and dropped it when they didn't materialize.
  
  USRA has been out of business, years now. Unless you really luck out, not likely you will ever know for sure.

  I had my license then, as well.. You'd also see "Special runs" offered by different wholesalers.. Many of the "specials" weren't marked.. Don't know where you'd find that info..

  Thanks for the info, Hangfire and Rufe-Snow. Guess I will never know for sure, as USRAC was at least two owners ago before going out of business for good. At least I got a great rifle at a fire sale price that seems to have gotten rid of most of the post-64 cost cutting cheapness (back to forged receivers, machined parts, etc.).
