Thanks all for the reply's to my original post above.

Regarding the caliber being .32 Rimfire,
Will this rifle shoot both Short and Long cartridges?

  If chambered for a Long it will do both. There should be enought of a "shoulder" to measure the chamber length. 32 short .575" 32 long .791" 32 extra long 1.150" 32 long rifle .937" 32 extra short .398
  
  Did you look at the reloadable 32 rimfire stuff?
  
  A short will shoot in a long not vice versa. I would guess yours is either a short or long, but there were at least 5 to choose from. It is really a straight case with a heeled bullet so there will not be a real shoulder, more of chamber ends rifleing begins. Debth gauge on dial caliper would be just fine, don't scratch soft metal bbl.

  Charlie, thanks for the reply,I'm not a gunsmith or gun expert by any means.
  Would i use a Caliper to measure the chamber depth to the shoulder to determine the caliber.

  I seriously doubt any .32 rimfire No. 2 was chambered for shorts only. The 1877 Remington price list (standard No. 2 was $21) shows only the .32 Long on the rim fire cartridge page.
