Remington Rolling block
I have acquired an Old Remington Rolling block action from an estate sale. I have two questions: what is something like this worth ( not that great of condition, but can be worked on by a gunsmith ), and since it has a serial# am I able to ship to someones home address or does it need to be shipped to a FFL dealer?

Hello again folks.Can anyone help me out on a Remington Rolling Block rifle value. I saw one for sale in very nice shape but just dont know what to pay.Any ballpark figures would help. All I know is it has the saddle ring if that means anything. Appreciate any help. Richee 0 -
RBs are not suited for the pressure of the 30-06. 0 -
You would be really pushing the envelope, IMHO. Although possible, the lock-up on a 100+ year old RRB is just marginal for 30-06.
I was shooting one chambered for 8mm Lebel years ago. Either the case head failed or the primer blew, I don't recall at this late date? To make a long story short, I got a face full of gas and debris. Don't pay to push your luck with a old Rolling Block.0 -

"Plus the extractor problem."............the 7mm is set up for rimless cartidges, so no problem there. Like the others have said the .30/06 would realy be 'pushing it'. I have seen r.b's. chambered in .30/06 on the auction side sold as "good shooters" but I wouldn't try this myself. you could rebarrel back to 7mm or possibly .300 savage.

the rem. #5 action has a spring loaded extractor (similar to a ruger #1)that will work within a good 'range' of head sizes .30/40 or .35 rem. will work fine0 -
As Frank DeHaas said, YOU could load it down to what the action would stand, but suppose your .30-06 got sold? Or inherited.
I think the Rolling Block is marginal for even 7mm.
They all seem to have excess chamber headspace, even the ones without much wear. Either the specifications were changed over the years or they made them sloppier than a bolt action for some functional reason.
It would make a nice .30-30 or .30-40 especially if restocked in the style of a No 5 Sporting Rifle. But that would get expensive.0 -

The 30/40 krag has a much bigger rim to it. If your gun is good to go
on the 7mm Mauser, why not stay with that family of case size?

So his extractor set up, that works on 7mm Mauser won't work on
the .35 remington???????????????????
