Scopes and AO

I have a Leupold 2X7 scope that will be moving from a 7-08 to a .22 L.R.
I'm considering sending it back to Leupold to have the parallax adjusted to 50 yards.

That got me wondering about how much practical difference this would make. For bench rest and true target work I can understand the wisdom of going for every possible "edge", but for a squirrel hunter and casual shooter how much difference does it make.

It seems that in theory, so long as your eye is centered in the field of view, the difference would be minimal.

Interested in input from folks who have had experience with both and strong opinions one way or the other.

  If you don't have it adjusted, you probably won't notice at 50 yards. Closer in and you will.
  
  I have two AO scopes, and for short range rimfire work I won't own one without AO unless I get into serious competition and then it will be fixed for the range shot at.

  I've run 2x7 Leupolds and Burris scopes on rimfires and not had any particular issues, especially on the lower power/mag settings. Leupold is a great company and i'm sure they will reset the parallax to whatever you want for a reasonable price. But, that price may well still be the better part of cost of a reasonable quality rimfire scope. I'd suggest you call Leupold and price the conversion. Mount the scope as is and give a try for 100rds or so on appropriately sized/ranged targets and then see what you think....

  Thanks for the responses. I called Leupold yesterday;
  3 times;
  average "place in line" 15.
  I gave up and sent them a letter suggesting they look at systems that allow you to leave a call back number.[:D]
  Will likely try the scope as is; keep my eye open for another Compact AO (have one on my Sako .222) and maybe send it back down the line if the need or spirit moves.

  You may also want to look at the Nikon scopes meant for shotguns - IIRC their parallax is set at 50 or 75 yards, very appropriate for rimfire use.
