Savge 755A BLEW UP..WHY ??

I fired a Savage 755A with a high brass 5 shot 2 3/4 factory load.It blew the barrel clear back inside the reciever.The "Test Proff Steal and 2 3/4" on the barrel is readable inside the reciever.The bore was clear,and I still got all my fingers...ect..Its worked fine for years.Any ideas ? Thanks,Oro

  It's an older Savage aluminum receiver model, that used a long recoil mechanism similar to the Browning A5. The barrel will normally come back into the receiver during recoil.
  
  From your description the barrel is locked up in the rear position. Normally spring pressure pushes the barrel forward into battery, with a shell in the chamber.
  
  Either you or a gunsmith are going to have to take it apart to try and find out what is preventing the barrel from going forward into battery.
  
  Maybe some of our members have experience with long recoil mechanism shotguns, to have an idea on why the barrel would lock up in the receiver.

  THE 755A CAME IN BOTH ALUM. AND STEEL RECEIVERS, IT IS A 'MODERNISED' BROWNING A-5 LONG RECOIL ACTION. IT DIDN'T 'BLOW-UP', IT IS JUST 'JAMBED' IN THE REARWARD POSITION.....GUNSMITH TIME

  Actually, the 755 had a steel receiver. The aluminum receiver model was the 775. I have a 775 in my collection.

  Friction brake not set up for high brass or the mag tube was oiled.

  Some of those older semi auto shotguns were very specific about how the friction ring was installed for different loads.
