Rossi pump .22

Problem: If I operate it 'briskly' the hammer drops to 1/2 cock. Operate it 'easy' and it stays at full cock, like it should.
There must be a worn/damaged part. Any help with diagnosis or repair would be appreciated.

  Far as I know the Rossi is a Brazilian replica/knock-off of the Winchester Model 62.
  
  The 62 doesn't have a separate sear, i.e. their is a square face on the trigger that engages a corresponding notch on the hammer.
  
  From your description either the trigger, hammer or both are worn on the Rossi. Since these parts probably won't be a drop in fit. I would take it to a gunsmith for new replacement parts that would have to be fitted to work correctly.
  
  Rossi's don't have the greatest reputation for quality of parts and workmanship. If the rifle has seen a lot of use, it might not be worthwhile to obtain new replacement parts and have a competent gunsmith install them correctly.

  Have you taken it apart and cleaned it? Maybe there is just dried oil/gunk preventing full engaugement. Bubba might have done a trigger job or the parts a indeed worn.

  This is the only gunsmith who has parts for older Rossi's, & he repairs them, too.

  Thanks folks.
  I'll start with the good cleaning and go on from there. It does appear to of been used hard and not looked after.
