Musty smell on holsters
I left some leather holsters in a box in my basement and now they
have a musty smell. What can I do to get rid of the smell?
Thanks

Pecard's leather dressing might help.

I use saddle soap and then leather oil like neetsfoot. you can buy it at Wallmart 0 -
In my experience that smell is generated from a mold / mildew growth that you want to kill first. A generous application of an oily leather dressing might do it in one step (like 'neetsfoot').
For heavy 'growth', I've used about a 25% concentration of clorox and water, immerse in that, use a tooth brush for heavy areas, then towel and air dry it. Then use the leather product of choice.
(For leather in good condition, this wetting with 25% clorox hasn't ever given me a problem.)0 -
Tandy Leather has a video where they use a mixture of lemon juice and water to neutralize the mold then after letting it dry, dress it using Lexol, a leather conditioner or neetsfoot oil.

I agree with SP45. Been cleaning "old" leather products this way for years. Works 0 -
Thanks everyone! I went to the Tandy sight, and it was really useful.
