Best AR15 scope for the $

I know this post will probably generate varied opinions but I'm looking to buy a new scope for my AR15. What is a good choice without breaking the bank. My budget is $300 plus or minus a few dollars. Would you recommend the new caliber specific scopes? or stay away from them?

I will be using it for general target shooting, coyote, and hog hunting.

  I really like my Leatherwood Hi-Lux 1-4x24 that I have mounted on my AR. Mounted on a Burris P.E.P.R. scope mount puts everything in the right spot.

  Looks like the Leopold Mark AR scopes are getting great reviews. Does anyone use the Nikon M-223 scope?

  Minox has a 1.5-8 that may be the ticket, several recticles too. I like the versa plex, should be nice glass. Cameralandny.com has some demos as well.

  Best Bang for the buck in budget priced scopes is the Burris FullField II. You don't list what chambering, or the ranges you expect to reach to. Stay away from th caliber load specific reticles.
  
  Most of the range compensating reticles like the Nikon BDC, Burris Ballistic Plex, and Sightron HHR, are based on the laws of averages, of a group of chamberings and loads, who have similar trajectories. They are kind of gimmicky, but will ge you in the ball park.
  
  I have a Burris FF II 4.5-14x, with the Ballistic Plex reticle on my AR-15, with a 16 inch RRA varmint upper. Shooting loads that use the Barnes 62 grain TSX bullet, it holds about 1/2 MOA accuracy out to 600 yards. I can pop a 50 lb salt block every time at 500 yards.

  WHat are you using it for? Paper punching, a tactical setup. Some varmint hunting? What you want to do with it, will make a big difference on the scope you want.

  Check out the Leatherwoods like Catpealer mentioned but they have other models as well.

  Target shooting, varmint hunting, hog hunting. Max range probably 200 yards
