Remington model 11 UMC
Im trying to find some info on a shotgun I bought at an estate sale this past weekend, the serial number is 1350 and it has a trade mark of the name remington & UMC in a circle on the triger gaurd and the butt plate....I have found out they started makeing this model in 1905 and I was wondering if they were re-issued to the Marine Corps with new numbers starting at 0 or is this one of the very first guns, what would the value be on this gun...thanks

UMC was an abbreviation for Union Metallic Cartridge Co., not U.S. Marines.
The Remington Arms Co. and UMC became one company in 1912.0 -

Value depends on the barrel having a matching serial number. Remove
barrel from gun and underneath stamped on the lug would be a number.
Hope it matches the gun, as many barrels were traded to the preferred
choke. Mine has a mismatched serial # on the barrel[:(]

You're not going to be able to determine manufacturing date by the serial number.
As thorhammer stated, first determine whether or not you have a numbers matching gun. If they match you can date it by the date code on the barrel. The code will be letters stamped into the left side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver near the choke stamping.

One more thing. I offer this caution to all unfamiliar with the Remington Model 11.
Your gun Should have a fiber recoil cushion in the rear of the receiver behind the bolt. The cushion is there to prevent the bolt slamming into the rear of the receiver and cracking it.
You might be able to see into the receiver by peering through the charging handle slot with a flashlight. The cushion will look like a 1" or so disc of brake shoe lining.0 -
With serial number that low it should be first year production. 0 -
the barrel does not match, its a ZZ date for 1953,the company e mailed me to say it was a first year issue, first month (1905)but thy didnt tell me if they start at #0 or #1000....still a very nice item, thanks for the info 0 -

This is NOT the same gun as the Browning A5. The Model 11's were made in Illion, NY, and the A5's were made in Belgium. Same basic design, yes. I am willing to bet that not all of the parts will interchange with the A5.
