what is the name of the base

that would fit this scope? I have seen pics of these types on GB, I believe that nononsense has a pic of one in his signature pics?

  It might have been originally fitted with what are called claw mounts. This is a semicircular male "foot" mounted on the base of the scope that fits into a corresponding female receptacle on the rifle. Without these mounts not likely IMHO for the scope to easily sell.

  Actually, that scope would take what was called a "rail" mount. The bases would attach to the receiver and, in some cases, the barrel and then clamp to the rail that's at the bottom of the scope. Bushnell made a version of that method, too, for a while. The purpose was to avoid the need for rings. It was probably a good idea but it didn't catch on.
  
  FWIW: Mannlicher Schoenauer offered their rifles with that scope and rail mount for a while.
