1894 barrel reblue

How can you tell if a 1894 takedown rifle has had the barrel reblued in the past? Thanks

  By looking at it. Do you have a photo? Is there dishing around screw heads?

  Mark,
  
  There are several clues;
  
  1. Look at the proof mark stamp... it should be sharp and clear, and not 100% covered with bluing.
  2. Look at the color of the bluing (any purple tinting is a dead giveaway).
  3. Look at the barrel address and caliber stamps for weak or obliterated letters or numbers.
  4. Look at the end of the muzzle... original barrels are not blued on the face of the muzzle.
  5. Look at the corners of the barrel flats (octagon barrels)... they should be square and sharp.

  Bert Thanks much for the info. Muzzle end of barrels were left in the white?
