    Either will work fine.

Tool steels and stainless we used carbide for.

Softer metals: brass, copper, alum., mild steel, you use HSS (H14)

How much are you taking off?

I use C2 or C3 carbide on cast iron, but HSS works well too. Remember NOT to use any cutting fluid when you use either of these ...it just gets in the way and you can get a nice cut with nothing. Good Luck!

Cast is dirty stuff. A guy that was making sewing machines had a hard time finding people to work it as it dusted up their shops.
