Scope mounts for JC Higgins 103/Marlin 80?
I have an old JC Higgins .22LR Model 103 from about 1960. I believe this is the equivalent to the Marlin Model 80 of that era. I love this little gun as it was the first I ever shot as an 8 year old kid. Anyway, I need to put a new scope on it because the original one is so dark and corroded inside I can hardly see through it. Does anyone know what kid of scope mounts to use on this gun? The old ones were attached to the scope so they can't be reused and I've never seen mounts like them. Thanks!

Does the rifle have two parallel grooves in the top of the receiver where the scope mount attaches? If so then any standard ".22 scope" mount should work. Should be able to get them at most sporting goods stores. The old standard for .22 scopes was a 3/4" tube. Many are now using 1" scopes, but you will need to match the scope rings to the mount system. 0 -

Go to Walmart. They have really inexpensive Tasco scopes for less than $15. They all have the .22 mounts aready on them. I bought 5 from Midway for $3.95 each. I handed them out like candy to all the kids. They worked pretty good too (for a .22 rifle).

Ah,".22 mounts". A little embarrassed I didn't know that was what they were called. Yes, ran out and bought some and they fit perfectly. Thanks guys! 0 -
Update - When I attached my scope on the .22 mounts I just bought the bolt would not open all the way because it was hitting the scope. I went back to the store to exchange for higher mounts but decided to just get a cheapo Tasco scope like Isgret suggested. I splurged and got the fancy $22.00 one! 0 -
Yeah a $1500 Night Force scope might have been over kill. I also still have my J.C. Higgins branded .22 made by the old High Standard. I still love mine too, and it still shoots better than I do. Glad to know I am not alone! 0
