did ruger make a nickel plated vaquero 45lc, or are all of them s.s.? thanks, daniel.

    Purchased two Ruger Vaquero's the other day in polished SS. I was disappointed to say the least in the smudged up and just plain dirty looking condition when I took them out of the plastic. Never seen this before in any Ruger or any other firearm I have purchased. Also the rosewood grips don't fit very well and have a couple of large gaps. Any insight from the learned body ? I called Ruger Customer Service and she said that if she send me some grips they might not fit any better and the guns are handled by the factory and the distributor. Send them back for work or just live with it? Thanks

    I have owned several Vaqueros and never had that happen. I would call Ruger.

    I just bought a Bisley Vaquero 44 Mag, stainless and am having the same problem. Please let us know what Ruger says if you call them. I am betting they just tell you to box it up and send it back.

    Just a guess here, I believe the trigger pin should be held in by a spring resting in a groove that runs around the circumference near one end. Inserting the pin backwards might result in the condition you mention. Don't recall if the hammer pin is held in by a similar spring, or by an unthreaded extension on one of the upper grip frame screws like on the old models. I'm far from home and can't look at either my old or new models so I'm not sure.
    One thing for certain, those pins should NOT work out on their own. Something I've never encountered in 50 some years around Rugers, nor have I heard of it.

    The pins appear to be notched in order to snap into place.

    Not sure if they'll back all the way out on their own, have'nt let them get that far yet. I've never seen pins do this just by working the action, the hammer pin has kinda a flat head to it, just enough I can catch my finger-nail on it, kinda like a rim/ridge against the frame. I have'nt contacted Ruger yet, just wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen which apparently they have. Not sure if I'll go to the trouble of sending it back but might have to. Any more suggestions/ideas, send them on, Thanks Note: its pin 46 & 30 in the diagram, I see the grooves but what springs ? What would happen if I pushed the pins out all the way ? would all hell break loose on the inside ? LOL

    I've never had it happen, or heard of it happening, and I've had mine in .45 Colt since they were first introduced. Call Ruger, and see what they say. I'm betting the former owner tried a trigger/action job and buggered them up somehow.

    The diagrams help. #46 is held in place by #19 engaging the groove.
    #30 is held in place by the extension on screw #24.
    Not uncommon for one or more of the pins to protrude ever so slightly from one side or the other of the frame.
    If the revolver is functioning properly and it's just a matter of a slight amount of play allowing the pin to be pushed to the left or right by a few thousanths, then I'd say you don't have a problem.
    On the other hand, if you can take a punch and push the pin all the way out, then something isn't right.
    You might try the following:
    Take the grips off and cock the revolver. Put a small pin, nail, etc. through the hole in the bottom of the hammer strut and lower the hammer.
    This will take the pressure off the "innards". Now try to push those pins out. Don't force anything. If you can push them out, then I would suspect a reversed pin on the trigger and the wrong screw (#24) on the hammer. If you still have a problem, call Ruger and you should by then have all the information you need to discuss the problem with them.

    Thanks everybody for the info, I just e-mailed Ruger and waiting for a response from them, may be a few days according to their site. Good info given here, again Thanks, will let you know what I find out. Also, got this pistol from my brother so positive no trigger job or other tampering went on. [:)]
